Danburite is a calcium borosilicate mineral that was first discovered in 1839 in Danbury, Connecticut. It has a vitreous luster, which means it has a glassy appearance and is usually transparent to translucent with a Mohs hardness of 7. The most common color for Danburite is white, however, it can also be found in yellow, peach, gray and green. It has one perfect cleavage, meaning it can be split along one plane and is typically found in igneous and metamorphic rocks. Danburite is a popular gemstone due to its clarity and sparkle and is often used to create jewelry and is even used as a diamond simulant in some cases. It is believed to provide emotional support and spiritual growth and is sometimes referred to as the “stone of transformation” due to its ability to help overcome obstacles.
