Rose quartz is a very durable mineral and is often used in jewelry, carvings, and other decorative items. It has been used in healing and spiritual practices for centuries and is the official state mineral of South Dakota. Rose quartz is one of the few minerals that exhibit a type of luminescence called triboluminescence, meaning it gives off a light when rubbed or scratched. The largest known deposit of rose quartz is located in Brazil, and it has a Mohs scale hardness of 7, meaning it can be scratched with a knife or other sharp objects.
