Peruvian Pyrite is a mineral found in Peru and is valued for its brassy yellow color and metallic luster. It is composed of iron sulfide and is often referred to as “fool’s gold” due to its resemblance to real gold. The most famous deposits of Peruvian Pyrite are found in the Huaral province of central Peru. Pyrite is commonly used as a decorative stone in jewelry and carvings. It has also been used as a source of sulfur for sulfuric acid production. It is an important source of iron for iron and steel production. Peruvian Pyrite is formed during the metamorphism of sedimentary and igneous rocks. It crystallizes in the cubic system and has a hardness of 6.5 on the Mohs scale. Different varieties of Peruvian Pyrite have been found to have different chemical compositions. Pyrite is commonly found associated with other minerals such as quartz, sphalerite and galena.
